Which personal breathalyser is right for me?

Choosing the right personal breathalyser depends on how frequently you intend to use it and the level of accuracy and precision you require.

Occasional personal use:
If you only expect to use your breathalyser occasionally, an affordable model with a fuel cell sensor can be a practical choice. Consider the Defender, RBT Mini or Maverick Breathalyser.

Regular use:
If you expect to test frequently, consider a model with a high quality electrochemical fuel cell sensor. Some models also store your readings in memory. Consider the Alcolimit Stryker or AlcoTrack breathlaysers if you require high precision and data storage.

P-Platers, Interlock Users and drivers requiring greater precision:
If you need a higher level of precision especially at 0.000%BAC consider models such as the AlcoLimit Stryker or AlcoTrack breathlaysers as these detect the smallest amounts of alcohol on your breath. If you're on a budget select the RBT Mini or Maverick Breathalyser.

Why choose an AlcoLimit personal breathalyser?

Alcohol affects everyone differently, and how you feel is not a reliable guide. A personal breathalyser gives you an objective reading so you can make a more informed decision about whether to drive, and helps you understand how quickly your body processes alcohol.

  • AS3547 compliant. Every personal model in our range meets Australian Standard AS3547 and has been independently tested for accuracy and durability.
  • Freshly calibrated. Each unit is calibrated before it leaves our warehouse.
  • Easy to keep accurate. Many models use Self-Replaceable Sensor (SRS) technology, so you can swap the sensor at home without posting your device away. [Confirm which models.]
  • Local support. Our team has been helping Australians choose breathalysers since 2003.
  • Call 1300 667 661 and talk to a real person.

Fair pricing. Before AlcoLimit, an Australian Standards breathalyser cost around $1,000.

How to Get an Accurate Reading

For the most reliable result:

  1. Wait at least 15-20 minutes after your last drink, as residual mouth alcohol can inflate the reading.
  2. Avoid eating, smoking, vaping or using mouthwash for 15 minutes before testing.
  3. Follow your device's blowing instructions (steady, continuous breath for the time shown in the manual).
  4. Use a fresh mouthpiece for each person.
  5. Test in a stable environment, away from strong fumes, extreme heat or cold.
  6. Keep it calibrated. Replace the sensor or have it recalibrated as recommended in your manual.
