Is the Defender breathalyser accurate enough to determine if I am under 0.050?
The Defender is Australian Standard approved and uses a fuel cell sensor providing highly accurate BAC readings. The stated accuracy is +/-0.005 at 0.100%BAC. We recommend testing yourself and then waiting another 10 minutes to perform a second test. This will generally let you know whether your %BAC is increasing or lowering. How long does a Defender Breathalyser take to do an alcohol breath test?

Is the Defender Breathalyser suitable for P-plate drivers?
Is the Defender Breathalyser suitable for P-plate drivers?
Yes. The Defender Breathalyser is a popular choice among provisional licence holders, as many Australian states require P-plate drivers to maintain a zero BAC when driving. Its fuel cell sensor technology provides highly accurate readings, helping users check their alcohol levels before travelling.
If you receive a 0.000 BAC result, it is advisable to wait at least 20 minutes and test again to confirm the reading. Alcohol can continue to be absorbed into the bloodstream after drinking, particularly if there is still alcohol present in the stomach, which may cause BAC levels to rise over time.
For P-platers, we strongly recommend avoiding driving after consuming alcohol. Many users find the Defender most useful for checking residual alcohol levels the following morning before driving to work, study or other commitments.
Is the Defender Breathalyser suitable to use in the dark at the pub or in my car?

No, the Defender breathalyser does not include data storage. For a similar breathalyser with data storage we recommend the AlcoLimit Stryker Breathalyser (which stores 10 test results) or for a high end model, the AlcoTrack Breathalyser stores 100 test results.
Can multiple people use the same Defender Breathalyser?

Why should I wait 20 minutes after drinking alcohol before testing myself?
Why should I wait 20 minutes after drinking alcohol before testing myself?
Residual alcohol in the mouth can affect readings as can Listerine or cigarettes. Do not consume anything but water in the 20 minutes prior to testing yourself. Waiting at least 20 minutes helps ensure a more accurate breath sample. Additionally, the alcohol recently consumed may still not have been absorbed into your blood so your level can continue to increase after testing.
Will using the Defender Breathalyser let me know if I am legally allowed to drive?
Will using the Defender Breathalyser let me know if I am legally allowed to drive?
The Defender Breathalyser is designed to provide fast and dependable BAC readings, but it should not be relied upon as the sole indicator of whether it is safe or legal to drive. Legal driving limits vary between licence categories, and alcohol can affect people differently depending on a variety of personal factors.
Variables such as body weight, gender, food intake, medication use, hydration and drinking patterns can all influence blood alcohol concentration. For this reason, the Defender breathalyser should be used as an alcohol screening device to support responsible decision-making rather than as a guarantee of legal driving eligibility.
We do not recommend driving with ANY amount of alcohol in your system.
