Calibration and Servicing
Like all fuel cell breathalysers, the Maverick requires periodic calibration to maintain accuracy.
Recommended calibration frequency:
- Every 12 months
- Every 500 tests
- Whichever occurs first
Regular calibration ensures your breathalyser continues to perform to it's Australian Standards AS3547 accuracy specification.
Why Choose a Fuel Cell Breathalyser Instead of a Semiconductor Breathalyser?
One of the most important decisions when buying a breathalyser is choosing the sensor technology.
Many low-cost breathalysers use semiconductor sensors which can be affected by substances other than alcohol and may deliver less consistent results.
The AlcoLimit Maverick uses an electrochemical fuel cell sensor designed specifically to detect alcohol molecules.
Benefits of fuel cell technology include:
- Improved accuracy at low BAC levels
- Better repeatability between tests
- Reduced false positives
- Longer sensor life
- Greater stability over time
- Technology commonly used in professional alcohol testing devices
For drivers seeking a higher level of confidence, fuel cell breathalysers are widely regarded as the preferred technology.

Is the Maverick breathalyser accurate enough to determine if I am under 0.050?
Is the Maverick breathalyser accurate enough to determine if I am under 0.050?
The Maverick is Australian Standard approved and uses a fuel cell sensor providing highly accurate BAC readings. The stated accuracy is +/-0.005 at 0.100%BAC. We recommend testing yourself and then waiting another 10 minutes to perform a second test. This will generally let you know whether your %BAC is increasing or lowering. However, breathalyser results should always be used as a guide and never as a guarantee that you are legally safe to drive.
What BAC range can the Maverick Breathalyser measure?

How long does a Maverick Breathalyser test take?
How long does a Maverick Breathalyser test take?
The Maverick breathalyser is designed for quick and convenient alcohol screening. After the warm-up process, users simply provide a breath sample and receive a digital BAC reading within seconds. The whole process takes less than 1 minute.
Is the Maverick Breathalyser suitable for P-platers?
Is the Maverick Breathalyser suitable for P-platers?
Yes. The Maverick breathalyser is particularly popular with P-platers because many Australian states require probationary drivers to maintain a zero alcohol limit. The device's high accuracy helps drivers monitor their alcohol levels before getting behind the wheel. If you are on your P-plates wait until you have received a 0.000 reading, test again 20 minutes later and make sure it is still 0.000 as alcohol levels can increase if there is still alcohol in your stomach from your last drink. We do not recommend driving on P-plates after drinking and recommend using this breathalyser more as a tool to test yourself the next morning if you need to drive to work etc.
Is the Maverick Breathalyser easy to use at night?

Why should I wait 20 minutes after drinking alcohol before testing myself?
Why should I wait 20 minutes after drinking alcohol before testing myself?
Residual alcohol in the mouth can affect readings as can Listerine or cigarettes. Do not consume anything but water in the 20 minutes prior to testing yourself. Waiting at least 20 minutes helps ensure a more accurate breath sample. Additionally, the alcohol recently consumed may still not have been absorbed into your blood so your level can continue to increase after testing.
Can the Maverick Breathalyser tell me if I am legally allowed to drive?
Can the Maverick Breathalyser tell me if I am legally allowed to drive?
The Maverick breathalyser provides a precise BAC reading, but it cannot guarantee whether you are legally fit to drive. Alcohol affects individuals differently, and legal driving limits vary depending on licence type. The breathalyser should be used as an alcohol screening tool to assist responsible decision-making. Different factors can contribute to your alcohol level like whether you have eaten a meal, how much water you drank while drinking alcohol, your body weight, whether you are taking any medications etc.
