Alcohol Testing and Concentration

Alcohol testing is vital for road safety and preventing drink-driving. Breathalysers measure the concentration of alcohol in a person’s breath, which correlates with the alcohol level in their bloodstream. Under AS3547:1997 the unit of measurement is %BAC (blood alcohol concentration). Under AS3547:2019 the standard unit of measurement for breath alcohol concentration is grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath (g/210L). In Australia, the legal limit for driving is 0.05 g/210L.
